What is a Diabolo? The diabolo is a juggling prop consisting of a spool which is whirled and tossed on a string tied to two sticks held one in each hand. A huge variety of tricks are possible using the sticks, string, and various body parts. Multiple diabolos can be spun on a single string. Diabolos come in different shapes and materials. Diabolos with more weight tend to retain their momentum for longer, whereas small/light diabolos can be thrown higher and are easier to accelerate to high speeds.
Diabolos evolved from the Chinese yo-yo, which was originally standardized in the 12th century Chinese yo-yos have a long thin axle, with disc-shaped wheels, while the western diabolo is more cone-shaped. The diabolo also comes in different colors, sizes, and weights. In the 21st century, Sundia has revolutionized the diabolo to an ultimate state of perfection with its single one-way (clutch) bearing system and more recently its triple one-way bearing system.
While the diabolo (dia - meaning 2) comes with 2 cups, the monobolo (mono - meaning 1) comes with 1 cup. The other side of the monobolo consists of a counterweight hub and a tip so it can be used as a spinner or spinning top. Thus also being called the one-sided (one sided) or single sided diabolo. Note: Going with tradition, Monobolos are not meant to be balanced as the diabolos are.
